COVID 19 Phase 3 Update

Good afternoon Parlier Families,


Friday marked the end of the 6th week of distance learning and so much has been accomplished in that time.  Our staff and students have done a great job in handling the switch of moving from classroom-based learning to learning packets to online learning.  Our goal is to continue to provide learning opportunities for all of our students.


As you already know, our Board of Trustees and Superintendent Robles agreed to close the school buildings for the remainder of the 2019/2020 school year.  We know that this is the right decision for the safety and health of our students and staff, but we are all disappointed at the loss of the instructional time in the classrooms with our teachers and support staff.   With all this being shared, there are a few important notes and informational updates we need to share out.


  1. Graduation - We remain committed to providing some sort of celebration for our graduating seniors.  We do not know when that will be or exactly what that will look like, but discussions are ongoing daily and we will provide the celebration opportunity that our seniors have worked for over the past 13 years. 

  1. Grading Guidelines - In collaboration with our teachers and administrators, we would like to provide an opportunity for our students to finish the academic year on a strong note.  
    1. The 3rd quarter (March 13, 2020) grade will be a student’s final second semester grade.  Unless, the student chooses to improve their grade. This applies to all students K-12. 
    2. Any assignment provided to students through May 22nd (Seniors) and May 29th (K-11) will be assigned a point value and entered into the gradebook.  
    3. No future grade will drop below the grade issued for the 3rd quarter (which ended March 13).
    4. Assignments in 4th quarter will be assigned value.  Assigned value will only enhance letter grade.  Assignments cannot hurt grade. 
    5. PHS / SVJHS seniors will still be held to PUSD graduation requirements.

  1. Updated Online Schedules – To accommodate time for students to complete assignments and teachers to create, assign and grade assignments, we have adjusted the final four weeks online schedule.  
    1. K-6 (Elementary) will meet on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for 90 minutes each day.  Each site will provide daily instruction for 30 minutes in Reading / English Language Arts, 30 minutes in math and 30 minutes provided for extra support.  Site Principals will send out communication of specific times.
    2. 7-12 (Jr. High & High school) will meet on Monday and Wednesday.  A full 7 period day will be held with each class lasting 30 minutes.  Tuesdays will provide students with a full day of opportunities to meet with their teacher online during their normal period for extra support or assistance.

9:05 - 9:35 – 2nd period

9:40 - 10:10 – 3rd period

10:15 - 10:45 – 4th period

11:00 - 11:45 - lunch

11:45 - 12:15 – 5th period

12:20 - 12:50 – 6th period

12:55 - 1:25 – 7th period

 

  1. Summer School update – Parlier Unified is still planning on holding summer school.  Plans are being made to host summer school online as we do anticipate social distancing and distance learning still being in effect.   We will announce criteria and invitations will be sent out in the next three weeks.
  2. End of Year – We are working with your school sites on how to obtain student’s personal items left in classrooms or locker rooms, how to distribute items bought through fundraisers and a procedure on returning of textbooks.  Once each site has their schedule approved, each principal will send it out.

Buenas tardes Familias de Parlier, 

 

El viernes marcó el final de la sexta semana de aprendizaje a distancia y se ha logrado mucho en este tiempo. Nuestro personal y estudiantes han hecho un gran trabajo al manejar el cambio de pasar del aprendizaje en el aula a los paquetes de aprendizaje y el aprendizaje en línea. Nuestro objetivo es continuar brindando oportunidades de aprendizaje para todos nuestros estudiantes.

 

Como ya sabe, La Mesa Directiva y el Superintendente Robles acordaron en cerrar los edificios escolares por el resto del año escolar 2019/2020. Sabemos que esta es la decisión correcta para la seguridad y la salud de nuestros estudiantes y personal, pero todos estamos decepcionados por la pérdida del tiempo de instrucción en las aulas con nuestros maestros y personal de apoyo. Con todo esto compartido, hay algunas notas importantes y actualizaciones informativas que necesitamos compartir con usted.

 

  1. Graduación: seguimos comprometidos a proporcionar algún tipo de celebración para nuestros estudiantes de último año. No sabemos cuándo será o exactamente cómo se verá, pero las discusiones continúan diariamente y brindaremos la oportunidad de celebración en la que nuestros estudiantes de último año han trabajado durante los últimos 13 años.

 

  1. Pautas de calificaciones: en colaboración con nuestros maestros y administradores, nos gustaría brindar una oportunidad para que nuestros estudiantes terminen el año académico con una nota fuerte. 

 

  1. La calificación del tercer trimestre (13 de marzo de 2020) será la calificación final del segundo semestre del estudiante. A menos que el alumno elija mejorar su calificación. Esto aplica a todos los estudiantes K-12.
  2. Cualquier asignación proporcionada a los estudiantes hasta el 22 de mayo (Seniors) y el 29 de mayo (K-11) se le asignará un valor en puntos y se ingresará en el libro de calificaciones.
  3. Ninguna calificación futura caerá por debajo de la calificación emitida en el tercer trimestre (que finalizó el 13 de marzo).
  4. Las Asignaciones en el cuarto trimestre se les asignará valor. El valor asignado solo mejorará la calificación de letras. Las tareas no pueden dañar el grado.
  5. Los estudiantes de último año de PHS/ SJVHS seguirán sujetos a los requisitos de graduación del PUSD.

 

  1. Horarios en línea actualizados: para acomodar el tiempo para que los estudiantes completen las tareas y los maestros crean, asignen y califiquen las tareas, hemos ajustado el horario en línea final de cuatro semanas.

 

    1. K-6 (Primaria) se reunirá los lunes, martes y miércoles durante 90 minutos cada día. Cada plantel proporcionará instrucción diaria durante 30 minutos en lectura/ artes del lenguaje inglés, 30 minutos en matemáticas y 30 minutos para apoyo adicional. Los directores del plantel enviarán comunicaciones de los horarios específicos.
    2. 7-12 (Secundaria y Preparatoria) se reunirán los lunes y miércoles. Se llevará a cabo un día completo de 7 períodos con cada clase que durará 30 minutos. Los martes brindarán a los estudiantes un día completo de oportunidades para reunirse con su maestro en línea durante su período normal para obtener apoyo o asistencia adicional.

9:05 - 9:35 - 2do período

9:40 - 10:10 - 3er período

10:15 - 10:45 - 4to período

11:45 - 12:15 - 5to período

  1. Actualización de la escuela de verano: El Distrito Unificado de Parlier  todavía planea tener la escuela de verano. Se están haciendo planes para organizar una escuela de verano en línea, ya que anticipamos que el distanciamiento social y el aprendizaje a distancia todavía estarán vigentes. Anunciaremos criterios y se enviarán invitaciones en las próximas tres semanas.
  2. Fin de año: estamos trabajando con los Planteles Escolares  sobre cómo obtener los artículos personales de los estudiantes que se quedaron en las aulas o vestuarios, cómo distribuir los artículos comprados a través de recaudaciones de fondos y un procedimiento para la devolución de libros de texto. Una vez que cada plantel tenga su horario aprobado, cada director lo enviará.

 

Si bien sabemos que estos tiempos han sido un desafío y diferentes a todo lo que hemos experimentado, estas oportunidades de aprender a usar la tecnología seguramente nos ayudarán a largo plazo.
